1% Sales Tax Explanation

The 1% sales tax is a county sales tax.

It is not a direct measure of economic activity within the City of Sunset Hills.

2010 Financial Status - 2nd Quarter (partial)

Current Issues:

  • Has the recession effected city revenues?  Compare 2009 to 2008!
    • General revenue up by 8.6%
    • 1% sales tax revenue rose by 9.6% (it is shared among 91 municipalities).
    • However, sales tax directly derived from city retail merchants fell 14.2%

 

  • Proposition P Fund Allocations.
    • Aquatic Center (swimming pool)
    • Community Center
    • Storm water projects

 

  • Proposition P Issue:  If membership fees don't cover operating costs, the General Fund will have to make up deficits.  Possibly impacting essential services such as public safety and public works.

 

  • Traffic Accident Hazards - S. Kirkwood Rd between I44 & Watson Rd
